Nobody can possess the charisma, the fire and passion that Anees Ahmed has having. All India Congress Committe Secretary , Anees Ahmed is shining like a star not only on the political horizon of Maharashtra, but in the whole country as well.

Born in Bangaluru, he had his school education at St Francis De Sales School, Nagpur and joined Hislop College, Nagpur where he was closely associated with student’s movement. He was elected as the president of cultural committee of Hislop College for centenary celebration.

He was also elected University Representative of Hislop College and then President of Nagpur University Students’ council. This was the period when Anees stepped into politics and emerged as a loyal Congress leader.

He got married in 1987 and it was in the same year that he was entrusted with the responsibility of President of NSUI Maharashtra Unit. There after he never saw back and simply plunged himself in political life for the cause of poor, under privileged and minorities. Under his tenure as President of NSUI, he organised various social, cultural, educational, and sports activities in Central Nagpur and took active part in several relief activities. He maintained cordial relations with all sectors of societies through his social activities. His message to common man of Central Nagpur was “Don’t offer me garland of flowers, Instead offer me garland of problems.”

Anees Ahmed, continued to serve the society as well as concentrated on his education along with several political and social assignments. He attained various degrees such as B.Com, M.BA, L.L.B, M.A (Political Science), M.A.(Public Administration) etc and developed himself as a ace swimmer. Other than these, Anees Ahmed has associated himself with social, economic & political affairs.

After gaining much experience, Anees Ahmed contested the first election for MLA from Central Nagpur Legislative Assembly Constituency Nagpur in 1989. Though he lost the election with meagre six votes, he never gave up and continued to work for the welfare and evelopment of Central Nagpur. His efforts bore fruits and was elected as MLA from Central Nagpur in year 1994. Since then he emerged as Nagpur’s bright star. He was again elected as MLA from his constituency in 1999 and was entrusted the responsibility of Minister of State for Higher and Technical Education under the leadership of Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh. He continued with the same portfolio also under the leadership of Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde. He was also given the responsibility of Guardian Minister of Bhandara district.

A great visionary, Anees Ahmed was elected as MLA from his constituency for consecutive third term in 2004. Due to his outstanding work as Minister of State and Guardian Minister from 2001 to 2004, he was appointed as Cabinet Minister in Congress-NCP led Democratic Front Government, in 2004. He was given Cabinet berth as State Minister for Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, and Dairy Development, and Aukaf and Guardian Minister of Chandrapur district.

He emerged as one of the successful Cabinet Ministers in Vilasrao Deshmukh Government from 2004 to 2008. The new cabinet was formed in year 2008 under the leadership of Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and he was upgraded as State Minister for Textiles, Minority Welfare, Sports and Youth Welfare, Employment and Self-employment, ex-Servicemen Welfare. Devoted Congress leader, Anees Ahmed is on the top of the league.
